Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced that its forces dismantled an Al-Shabaab network during a security operation in Mogadishu on Sunday evening.

NISA reported the arrest of three members of the group and the recovery of weapons, two tuktuks, and a Fekon bike, which were allegedly being used to plan attacks against residents in the capital.

The operation comes in the wake of a recent deadly attack carried out by Al-Shabaab militants on the Police Academy in the Hamar Jajab district, which left at least seven people dead, including police officers and civilians.

The police confirmed the casualties, while Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, asserting they had killed 15 officers and injured others during the assault.

Additionally, Al-Shabaab targeted local shopkeepers in the Hodan district, killing two and wounding another, reportedly in retaliation for installing CCTV cameras.

The group’s actions have heightened security concerns in Mogadishu, leading to increased efforts by NISA to thwart further attacks and dismantle their networks within the city.

NISA’s successful operation is seen as a critical step in curbing Al-Shabaab’s presence in the capital, as authorities continue to intensify counter-terrorism measures across the country.
