MOGADISHU, Somalia – Several key opposition leaders in Somalia gathered today for a high-level political meeting at the residence of Macallin Nuur, located in the Hodan district of Mogadishu. The meeting, organized by the Samadoon party, focused on critical national issues, including the upcoming elections and the current political situation in the country.

The meeting was attended by prominent political figures, including Abdulqadir Macallin Nuur, leader of the Samadoon party and head of the Sufi path, who hosted the gathering. Other attendees included former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, former Prime Ministers Hassan Ali Khaire and Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, leader of the Wadajir party Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, and MPs from both houses of the Somali Parliament.

In his opening remarks, Sheikh Abdulqadir Macallin Nur called for unity between the government and the opposition, particularly in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

“When fighting an enemy, one must commit their wealth, intellect, and strength. It is commendable that the Federal Government has taken such an initiative, but many of those who should have been involved are still sitting on the sidelines.” said Abdulqadir Macallin Nur

A key topic of discussion was the upcoming elections, with the Samadoon party expressing concerns about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process. The party has questioned the current approach to elections, highlighting that several regional governments and leaders within the central government have declared their own unified platform, leading to suspicions about the fairness of the process.

The Samadoon party is among the organizations registered for the upcoming elections, as announced by the National Electoral Commission. However, today’s meeting also saw the participation of groups that are not yet registered but strongly oppose the government’s management of the electoral process, particularly its approach to national unity and consensus-building.

“Coming together for inclusive dialogue is vital because this country belongs to all of us. When a crisis occurs, both those who caused it and those affected by it bear the consequences — neither side benefits, and it does not serve the nation’s interest. That is why we in Samadoon are committed to engaging both sides. We call on the government to initiate dialogue, just as we call on the opposition to do the same.” said the Second Deputy Chairman of the Samadoon party.

The Second Deputy Chairman of the Samadoon party emphasized that such meetings would become a regular part of their ongoing efforts to address the political challenges facing Somalia.
