Baidoa, South West State, Somalia – The Baay Regional Court has carried out the execution of two young men convicted of murdering Xaawa Luul Cabdiladhiif Macallin.

The execution took place in a public square in Baidoa, with the South West State Prosecutor’s Office confirming that Mukhtaar Mohamed Nur and Nur Mohamed Hassan were responsible for the murder of Xaawa Luul Cabdiladhiif, leading to their death sentence being enforced.

“The South West State Prosecutor’s Office has executed the convicts Mukhtaar Mohamed Nur, 20, and Nur Mohamed Hassan, 20, who were found guilty of murdering Xaawa Luul Cabdiladhiif Macallin,” the prosecution’s statement read.

The crime occurred on February 9, 2025, in Baidoa, when Mukhtaar and Nur fatally stabbed Xaawa Luul to steal her mobile phone.

The Baay Regional Court held a hearing yesterday and, after extensive legal proceedings, carried out the death sentence on the same day, according to South West State’s official media.

Speaking at the execution site, the South West State Minister of Security stated that the government will continue enforcing court rulings to ensure justice is served.
