Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-President Ismail Omar Guelleh of the Republic of Djibouti extended his wishes for success to the athletes representing Djibouti at the Paris Olympics 2024. The President said during an official reception held Monday morning at the Presidential Palace to honor the athletes qualified for the upcoming Olympic Games, which will commence on July 26 in Paris, France.

“I form the hope that the future JO will serve as an additional opportunity to acquire new trophies, new distinctions for our country,” President Guelleh said. He further praised the athletes, stating, “Through your victories and sporting performances, you contribute to the realization of our country’s visibility and radiance internationally.”

In a gesture symbolizing national pride and support, President Guelleh handed over the national flag to Mohamed Ismail, the captain of the Djibouti sports team.

The President assured the athletes of his personal support, promising, “I will personally be in Paris to support and encourage our team in the framework of these Olympic Games.” He also extended his “warmest congratulations to all the personalities and structures competing in strengthening athletics and sport in Djibouti.”

The event was attended by notable figures including Ms. Aicha Garad Ali, Member of the International Olympic Committee, Ms. Fardousa Moussa Egueh, President of the Djibouti Olympic Committee, and Mr. Said Ismail Hassan, President of the Djibouti Athletics Federation.

As Djibouti’s athletes prepare for the international stage, the nation’s hopes are high for new victories and achievements that will enhance the country’s global reputation.
