Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced his intent to reach out to Puntland and Jubaland state leaders who are boycotting the ongoing National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting in Mogadishu.Speaking before members of Somalia’s bicameral parliament at Villa Somalia, President Hassan expressed his commitment to resolving disagreements, even offering to personally visit Puntland and Jubaland leaders to facilitate discussions and reach a consensus if they are willing. The NCC meeting, which continues without the participation of Puntland and Jubaland, has been hindered by their absence for the second time this month.Leaders from Southwest, Galmudug, and Hirshabelle states remain the only participants, all aligned with the Federal Government’s vision for a one-person, one-vote electoral model—a point of contention with Puntland and Jubaland.President Hassan reiterated his support for implementing the direct election model, while Puntland and Jubaland continue to oppose it, citing readiness issues. As the NCC meeting proceeds in a limited capacity, President Hassan’s outreach highlights a renewed effort to bridge divides within Somalia’s federal framework and uphold national unity.
