Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-On Monday, President Ismail Omar Guelleh presided over the inauguration of a new restaurant at the University of Djibouti, a facility designed to enhance the university’s infrastructure and improve student welfare.In his speech, President Guelleh praised the addition, noting that “the University of Djibouti has acquired this indispensable structure,” which he said would improve the working, studying, and living conditions on campus.The restaurant, built through a public-private partnership, has a capacity to serve 1,200 meals multiple times a day, offering affordable menus for all students. The building features modern amenities, including a spacious dining hall with new, comfortable furniture and a state-of-the-art kitchen that adheres to the highest standards of hygiene and dietary care.The project, a collaboration between the Sovereign Fund of Djibouti (FSD) and local company Habon Construction, owned by Ms. Kadjia Ahmed Barkadleh, received $2 million in funding. The FSD, under the leadership of General Manager Slim Feriani, played a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition.In addition to affordable pricing, the government will cover meal costs for 2,300 students from interior regions, with the Ministry of Social Affairs providing 800 Djiboutian francs per student daily as part of this support measure.The event saw strong support from the student community, who expressed their appreciation for President Guelleh’s leadership and commitment to the country’s development. Senior government officials, including Prime Minister Abdoukader Kamil Mohamed and other ministers, were also present at the inauguration.The restaurant’s opening marks a significant step in improving student life at the University of Djibouti and reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing education and social welfare across the nation.
