Hargeisa, April 15, 2025 – The President of Somaliland, Cabdiraxmaan Maxamed Cabdilaahi (Cirro), today participated in a ceremony marking National Tree Planting Day in Somaliland. The event also saw the launch of the 3 Million Tree Planting Project, one of the major initiatives of the current government. The event, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the importance of trees and the steps needed to promote planting and environmental conservation.The President spoke about the negative effects of climate change, noting that rising temperatures, deforestation, and recurrent droughts have severely impacted the livelihoods of the people of Somaliland. He also mentioned that deforestation caused by climate change has forced farmers and pastoralists to migrate to urban areas, which is increasing the pressure on urban environments.President Cirro stated that the 3 Million Tree Planting Project is part of the government’s efforts to rehabilitate land and combat desertification. This initiative is based on the promises made during the election campaign, with the goal of restoring land suitable for cultivation and achieving the government’s environmental protection objectives.
