Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre officially launched the Badmaal Project today, a major initiative aimed at revitalizing Somalia’s fishing industry and improving the livelihoods of coastal communities.The project is expected to benefit thousands of Somali fishermen and strengthen the country’s critical fishing infrastructure.Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Hamza emphasized the project’s focus on supporting coastal communities and improving fisheries management across the nation.“The Badmaal Project will enhance the skills of our fishermen, improve their equipment, and boost their incomes, while also developing the fishing sector’s overall economic infrastructure,” the Prime Minister said.The project aims to harness Somalia’s rich marine resources by strengthening fisheries cooperatives and improving coordination between the Federal Government, Federal Member States (FMSs), international partners, and local communities.It will be managed by the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy (MFBE) in close collaboration with fisheries ministries from the FMSs.Abdi Dirshe, Director General of the MFBE, highlighted that the Badmaal Project represents a coordinated effort among stakeholders, including federal and regional governments, to ensure sustainable economic growth through the development of Somalia’s blue economy.The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of coastal communities while positioning the fishing industry as a vital driver of economic growth for the country.
