Puntland, Somalia – Puntland security forces have killed nearly 100 ISIS fighters over the past three days following extensive operations in the Calmiskad Mountains of the Bari region, according to Puntland authorities.

Puntland reported that two airstrikes conducted last night in the Shebaab area of the Calmiskad Mountains killed more than 30 ISIS fighters, most of whom were foreign nationals. Additionally, a supply vehicle belonging to the group was destroyed.

A statement from the operation’s command confirmed the attacks, stating:

“Two airstrikes carried out tonight in the Shebaab area of the Calmiskad Mountains have killed more than 30 ISIS terrorists, mostly foreigners, and their supply vehicle was destroyed.”

The statement also emphasized that the majority of those killed were foreign militants.

This operation comes just one day after Puntland announced that security forces had killed more than 60 ISIS fighters in another operation in the Calmiskad Mountains of the Bari region.

Puntland’s counterterrorism operations spokesman, Mahamoud Fadhigo, confirmed in a press briefing on Tuesday evening that security forces had conducted airstrikes and ground assaults targeting ISIS hideouts in the region.

“The counterterrorism operation is ongoing, and in the latest battle in the Haraaryo area, between 60 to 65 ISIS militants were killed,” Fadhigo stated.

Since late December, Puntland has been engaged in an intense campaign against ISIS, particularly in the Calmiskad Mountains, where clashes have been ongoing. Puntland had previously declared a military campaign to eliminate ISIS elements from its territories.
