Garowe, Puntland (Mogadishu24)-Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni has on Saturday issued a stern warning against the Federal Government of Somalia, urging leaders to avoid actions that could lead to the collapse of the country.

He referenced the Arte peace talks in Djibouti, which led to the formation of Somalia’s transitional government in 2000 after 20 years of conflict.

“I urge the President of the Federal Government of Somalia not to make decisions unilaterally and to share them with relevant authorities. I call on him and the federal member states to protect what has been commonly agreed upon,” Deni said at an event organized by Puntland Development and Research Center in Garowe with high level participation of Somalis and International community members.

Puntland cut ties with the Federal Government earlier this year after the Somali Parliament passed four chapters of the provisional constitution in March, a move Puntland claims was done without proper consultation.

Puntland also accused the federal government of blocking funds and development projects in the region.

Puntland’s Vice President, Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, echoed the sentiments, stating, “Of all international projects for Somalia, Puntland only receives 4%, despite being one of the most stable regions where projects can be effectively implemented. Puntland seems to be punished for its progress while the rest of Somalia benefits.”

The political rift highlights ongoing tensions between Puntland and the federal government as calls for greater cooperation and inclusivity grow louder.
