Mogadishu, Somalia – SIMAD University celebrated its 25th anniversary today in a grand ceremony that highlighted its achievements and contributions to national development. The event brought together government officials, alumni, faculty, and key stakeholders to commemorate the institution’s remarkable journey over the past quarter-century.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the founding father of SIMAD University and Somalia’s current President, delivered the keynote address, reflecting on the institution’s origins and its pivotal role in shaping Somalia’s future.

Established in 1999 with just three classrooms, three faculty members, and 30 students, SIMAD University has grown into one of Somalia’s leading academic institutions. With multiple campuses, hundreds of faculty and staff, and thousands of students, the university is now a vital driver of national development.

Dr. Abdikarim Mohaidin, the President of SIMAD University, highlighted this transformation in his remarks. “SIMAD University has evolved from a small initiative into a thriving institution that produces graduates who are leaders in every sector. We are proud of our legacy and remain committed to advancing higher education in Somalia,” he said.

The ceremony featured speeches from notable alumni and dignitaries who lauded the university’s contributions. Hon. Nura Mustafa, State Minister of Education and a SIMAD alumna, emphasized the institution’s role in national progress.

“SIMAD University’s 25th anniversary symbolizes resilience and excellence in education. It has been instrumental in shaping the leaders and innovators who are driving Somalia forward. I congratulate the university on this extraordinary achievement,” she said.

Parliamentarian Abdurahman Odowa, also an alumnus, echoed these sentiments, noting, “SIMAD University has transformed countless lives and stands as a model for academic excellence in the region. Its impact on Somalia’s development is profound.“
