MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — The Chief of the Somali National Army, General Odawaa Yusuf Raage, has firmly stated that the Somali government will not allow Al-Shabaab militants to surrender. His remarks came during a meeting with the army, where he discussed the current security situation and emphasized the importance of the ongoing battle against the Al-Shabaab group.

Unyielding Stance Against Al-Shabaab

“Previously, we heard calls for them to surrender, but we must make it clear that they will not be allowed to reintegrate into society. These individuals have caused immense suffering and cannot be allowed to return,” General Odawaa said. He reiterated that Al-Shabaab’s actions have made it impossible for them to re-enter the Somali community, stressing that the group must be eliminated entirely.

Commitment to Ongoing Combat

The General emphasized that the government remains fully committed to continuing the fight against Al-Shabaab, rejecting any attempts for reconciliation or amnesty for the militants. “We will not allow these groups to blend back into society, and our efforts to rid Somalia of their presence will continue unabated,” he added.

Unity in the Fight Against Terrorism

General Odawaa also highlighted the importance of national unity in the fight against Al-Shabaab, urging all sectors of Somali society to come together to strengthen the efforts against the militant group.
