Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Following the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit on humanitarian crises in Palestine, Gaza, and Lebanon, Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty in Riyadh to discuss regional security and cooperation.Central to their discussions were the new African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and Egypt’s potential role in the mission.Minister Abdel Aty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to upholding Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while rejecting external interference in Somalia’s internal affairs. He reiterated Egypt’s support for Somalia’s federal government in its fight against terrorism and in asserting control across the nation.The Egyptian Foreign Minister highlighted his country’s dedication to strengthening peace and security in Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa, which he noted is a strategic priority for Egypt’s national security. Abdel Aty expressed Egypt’s readiness to support AUSSOM, leveraging its expertise in peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and capacity-building in regional stability initiatives.Minister Fiqi thanked Egypt for its unwavering support in helping Somalia combat terrorism and maintain sovereignty.
