Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed, held a significant meeting today with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. George Conway. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry in Mogadishu, focused on enhancing cooperation, coordination, and joint efforts between Somalia and the United Nations.

During the discussions, both parties emphasized the importance of the technical teams’ efforts from both sides and the development of a comprehensive strategy. This strategy aims to ensure a seamless transition from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) to a UN country office structure. The transition is expected to accelerate Somalia’s progress towards prosperity, achieve its desired goals, and foster sustainable development.

The meeting highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Somalia and the United Nations, reinforcing the commitment to work together in achieving long-term stability and development for the country.

“Our discussions today focused on strengthening our cooperation and developing a strategy for a smooth transition from UNSOM to a UN country office structure. This transition will help us accelerate our progress and achieve sustainable development,” said Minister Ahmed.

Mr. Conway reaffirmed the United Nations’ dedication to supporting Somalia’s development initiatives and ensuring that the transition process is effective and beneficial for the country.

“We are committed to working closely with the Somali government to ensure a seamless transition that supports Somalia’s long-term development and prosperity,” Mr. Conway stated.
