Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Cabdiqaadir Maxamed Nuur, has issued a strong warning against civilians who continue to engage with the Al-Shabaab, despite previous government warnings urging people to avoid any interaction with them.In a statement posted on his Facebook page last night, the minister revealed that individuals in Ceel Bacad, located in the Middle Shabelle region, were observed maintaining ties with Al-Shabaab. He stated that this is a clear indication that some individuals have yet to heed government warnings regarding any form of association with the group.“Despite the government repeatedly issuing warnings, yesterday in Ceel Bacad, we witnessed that some people still engage with the Khawarij,” Minister Cabdiqaadir Maxamed Nuur wrote.He urged the Somali public to stay away from Al-Shabaab-controlled areas and to completely avoid any dealings with the group. He concluded his message with: “Let Allah be our witness that we have delivered the message!”This statement follows previous government warnings advising citizens to steer clear of Al-Shabaab and ISIS-linked groups. The Somali government has reiterated that anyone found collaborating with these terrorist groups will face legal consequences.The Middle Shabelle region has recently witnessed intense fighting between Somali government forces, local Macawiisley militias, and Al-Shabaab. The government has announced plans to escalate the offensive through aerial strikes, urging civilians to avoid areas where such military operations may take place.
