MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – April 26, 2025 — The House of the People of Somalia’s Federal Parliament has unexpectedly postponed today’s scheduled session, according to an official notice sent to lawmakers. The session has been rescheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025, though no official reason was provided for the delay.

The decision comes amid growing political tension within Parliament, following a chaotic and heated session earlier this week that ended in disruption and physical altercations — a sign of the deepening divisions among lawmakers.

Speaker Under Pressure

The postponement coincides with mounting speculation over a no-confidence motion aimed at ousting Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Adan Madobe). A group of MPs had earlier submitted a draft motion against the Speaker, though it has yet to be formally debated. Speaker Adan Madobe is currently outside the country, fueling further uncertainty about the leadership situation within the chamber.

While the official reason for today’s cancellation has not been disclosed, political analysts believe the move is linked to the ongoing power struggle and procedural uncertainty surrounding the motion against the Speaker.

Attention now shifts to the rescheduled session on May 5, where it remains to be seen whether the motion will be officially tabled — and how Parliament will navigate the intensifying internal rift.
