Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali police have arrested four suspected Al-Shabaab members connected to recent deadly attacks on shopkeepers in Mogadishu, allegedly in retaliation for their compliance with government orders to install CCTV cameras in their businesses.

According to Somali Police Forces spokesperson Abdifitah Aden Hassan, the suspects were responsible for targeting shopkeepers who had installed security cameras as part of efforts to curb crime and support police investigations.

The recent attacks have shaken Mogadishu, with three shopkeepers killed in Yakhshid district on Monday.and over six others were shot dead in Daynile and Hodan districts respectively during this month.

The threat of violence led many businesses to temporarily shut down, though police have emphasized the importance of CCTV in preventing crime and reinforcing security in the capital.

Spokesperson Hassan reaffirmed that the suspects will face trial and assured the public that the police will continue to enforce CCTV measures despite the group’s attempts to intimidate shop owners.

Authorities remain steadfast in their commitment to using surveillance to enhance security and combat criminal activities.
