Bujumbura, Burundi(Mogadishu24)-Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport today for crucial discussions with Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye.

The talks will focus on the transition of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) as Somalia prepares to take over full security responsibilities.

President Mohamud’s visit to Burundi follows a two-day trip to Uganda and is part of a broader diplomatic tour to engage with countries contributing troops to ATMIS. During his last visit to Burundi in November 2023, the leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and acknowledged Burundi’s role in supporting peace and stability in Somalia.

The visit also reflects Somalia’s commitment to regional integration within the East African Community (EAC), which Somalia joined as the eighth member in November 2023. President Mohamud is expected to continue his tour with visits to other troop-contributing nations in the coming days.
