Kigali(Mogadishu24)-Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Paul Kagame, who was elected for a fourth term in office. The event was attended by several heads of state and government officials, underscoring the significance of Kagame’s continued leadership.

President Kagame, a former rebel commander, has been in power since 2000. He is widely recognized for leading the forces that ended the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, during which around 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days. His leadership has been credited with bringing stability and economic growth to Rwanda, though it has also been marked by controversy regarding political freedoms.

President Mohamud’s participation in the inauguration highlights the ongoing diplomatic relations between Somalia and Rwanda, as both nations continue to engage in regional and international cooperation. Both countries are in the East African Community that Somalia joined in recent.
