Mogadishu, Somalia – December 17, 2024 – Somalia’s President presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gateway Complex, a landmark development set to reshape Mogadishu’s economy, infrastructure, and global profile.

The event, held at Bancario Complex on Airport Road, brought together senior government officials, Members of Parliament, and private sector leaders. Notable attendees included the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and the Chairman of Riverside Holding, the firm spearheading the project.

The Gateway Complex will be the first of its kind in Somalia, featuring:

• Somalia’s first 5-star hotel, managed by international hospitality brand Rotana,
• A 5,000-capacity International Convention Centre,
• A 300-bed modern hospital,
• Premium residential apartments, a leading school, a shopping complex, and recreational facilities.

In his address, the President called the project a “milestone moment for Mogadishu and Somalia,” highlighting its role in attracting investment, creating jobs, and improving the city’s infrastructure.

The Chairman of Riverside Holding added, “Gateway is a statement of confidence in Somalia’s future, providing essential services and raising the standard of living.”

The project is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and operations, boosting local employment and supporting businesses across the supply chain. It also positions Mogadishu as a regional hub for business, healthcare, and tourism.

The ceremony concluded with the symbolic turning of soil, marking the official start of construction on this transformational project.
