Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the new building of the Ministry of Interior Affairs in Mogadishu’s Bondhere district.

This follows the removal of hundreds of families who had been residing in the premises for the past three decades. The families had been living among the rubble of the old ministry buildings.

“It is important that we work in well-equipped government facilities that provide efficient services for the Somali people. The rebuilding of this ministry is part of a broader plan to restore government offices and ensure the government functions effectively for the people,” the Prime Minister said.

He urged all those currently residing in government buildings to vacate as soon as possible to allow for reconstruction and the improvement of public services.

Notably, flags of two European countries were seen on the board during the foundation-laying ceremony, signaling their support for the Somali government, although the countries were not explicitly mentioned.
