Jigjiga(Mogadishu24)-The Somali State in Ethiopia is set to boost agricultural productivity with a large-scale distribution of high-quality seeds. Abdullahi Muhumed Farah, Manager of the Somali Regional Seeds Company, announced that preparations are in the final stages to load seeds onto trucks for delivery across key agricultural areas in the state.The high-quality seeds, specifically the Malkasa 4 maize variety, are proven to be well-suited to local conditions. A total of 4,000 quintals of these seeds have been procured by the regional Agriculture Office from the Somali Regional Seeds Company.These seeds will be distributed to farmers in 39 districts across eight regions, enhancing crop yields and production quality, especially as rainfall from the deyr season has recently arrived in parts of the state.This initiative is part of a recurring program by the regional Agriculture Office, which annually purchases quality seeds from the Seeds Company to support farmers during critical planting seasons. The effort aligns with the Somali State’s ongoing improvements in agriculture, infrastructure, health, and water resources, driving progress across multiple sectors.
