Mogadishu, Somalia – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a high-level meeting on May 6, 2025, with General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), to discuss enhancing bilateral security cooperation.

According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the meeting focused on accelerating joint efforts in the fight against Al-Shabaab and ISIS, and on reinforcing Somalia’s engagement with international partners, including the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

President Mohamud expressed deep gratitude for the United States’ continued support in Somalia’s ongoing security operations and counterterrorism efforts.

“The President expressed profound appreciation for the United States’ unwavering support to Somalia in the fight against international terrorism,” the statement noted.

General Langley also held separate discussions with Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and the Chief of Defense Forces, General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, to explore ways to expand military training, equipment support, and joint operations.

AFRICOM plays a critical role in supporting airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab and ISIS militants and provides Somalia with strategic intelligence and advisory assistance.
