Somalia prioritizing energy cooperation with Azerbaijan, showcasing strategic partnership in the renewable energy sector.

BAKU, AZERBAIJAN – 2025 — Somalia is deepening its energy cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly in the field of renewable energy. Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia, emphasized that Somalia highly values its strategic partnership with Azerbaijan and has decided to further enhance collaboration in renewable energy development.

Speaking at the Baku Energy Forum, Minister Warsame highlighted the significance of the energy cooperation between the two countries, noting that Somalia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy to expand cooperation in renewable energy.

As part of our efforts to transition the country’s energy sector, Somalia has signed a cooperation agreement with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy to expand our collaboration in renewable energy, said Minister Warsame.

International Platform for Energy Cooperation

The Minister also emphasized the importance of the Baku Energy Forum, describing it as a vital international platform for advancing global cooperation in the energy sector.

This forum plays a crucial role in enabling joint operations, support, and collaboration in the renewable energy sector,” he added.

This energy collaboration is expected to significantly advance Somalia’s energy sector, helping the country access clean, sustainable energy solutions as part of its broader efforts to boost the economy and safeguard the environment.
