The governments of Somalia and Qatar have reached an agreement on a job creation project that will see more than 10,000 Somali youth employed in various sectors inside Qatar.

“Somalia and Qatar have agreed on a project that will employ over 10,000 Somali youth, who will work in different sectors across Qatar. A delegation led by Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs signed the agreement in Doha, Qatar,” read a statement issued by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA).

This agreement stems from formal discussions held in Doha between a Somali delegation led by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Yusuf Mohamed Aden, and senior officials from Qatar’s Ministry of Labour. The objective of the project is to increase employment opportunities for Somali youth abroad.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia described the agreement as a reflection of the government’s ongoing efforts to open up international job markets for Somali youth. Additionally, the technical committee for labour cooperation between the two countries convened a special meeting in Doha to strengthen collaboration and establish a unified system for implementing the employment agreement.
