Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia has signed a $68.5 million Development Assistance Grant Agreement with the United States, marking a significant step in strengthening long-term socio-economic development.The agreement was signed in Mogadishu by Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, Mohamud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah (Beene-Beene), Minister of Finance, Bihi Iman Egeh, and USAID Somalia Mission Director, Ms. Catie Lott.The agreement focuses on fostering economic growth, governance reforms, health, education, and the empowerment of women and youth, aligning with Somalia’s vision for resilience and sustainability.“This agreement reflects the enduring cooperation between Somalia and the United States,” said Minister Farah. “With this support, we will strengthen critical sectors to ensure that our people, especially women and youth, have the tools and opportunities to thrive.”The U.S. funding will expand Accelerated Basic Education programs to benefit over 150,000 children, rehabilitate over 200 classrooms for an additional 10,000 students, enhance governance, and create economic opportunities for women and youth.“This grant agreement reflects the heart of U.S.-Somalia collaboration: building resilience, stability, and empowering future leaders,” added Mission Director Lott.Building on 18 years of U.S. support, the agreement aims to further Somalia’s progress in governance, education, and economic resilience, promoting stability across rural and urban communities.
