The Federal Government of Somalia announced today that the SSC-Khaatumo administration has handed over 25 prisoners affiliated with Somaliland to the Federal Government. These individuals had previously been detained in areas controlled by SSC-Khaatumo.According to the government, the prisoners were captured during the conflict between Somaliland and the SSC-Khaatumo regions. It was noted that the detainees have special circumstances that require particular consideration.A press release issued by the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia stated that the 25 prisoners were transferred as part of the national reconciliation and peacebuilding program led by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.“The SSC-Khaatumo administration, after consultations with its governing councils, transferred 25 prisoners to the Federal Government of Somalia. These individuals were among those captured during the conflict involving Somaliland and the SSC-Khaatumo community. They have specific conditions that warrant special attention. The Federal Government will ensure their safe return to their families,” the statement read.The Somali government added that this step is part of its broader peace and reconciliation efforts aimed at promoting stability and unity across the country.It was also confirmed that the Federal Government will facilitate the safe reintegration of the released prisoners with their families. These 25 prisoners are part of a total of 283 Somaliland-affiliated detainees currently held in Las’anod.
