Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s executive council has on Thursday approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Ports Group focused on fisheries and the blue economy. The MoU was previously signed by Somalia’s Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, although specific details about the date and location of the signing were not disclosed.

The approval was announced during the government’s weekly meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre. The Office of the Prime Minister provided a brief note on the MoU but did not elaborate on the specifics of the agreement.

Despite recent tensions, the UAE has signed several agreements with Somalia, including those related to security and development projects.

Earlier this week, UAE Ambassador to Somalia Ahmed Juma Al-Rumaithi met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and security cooperation.

This new MoU marks a continuation of efforts to strengthen ties and promote economic collaboration between the two nations.
