Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has reiterated its commitment to democratic reforms, particularly by observing and supporting transparent elections in(northern regions), Somaliland, which plans to hold its presidential and political party elections independently on November 13, 2024.These elections will proceed without oversight or influence from the Federal Government, underscoring Somaliland’s autonomous management of its electoral process.Somalia’s Ministry of Interior emphasized the significance of recent strides toward a one-person, one-vote electoral model, successfully implemented in regions like Puntland, as a testament to the Somali people’s dedication to free and fair elections.In alignment with the National Consultative Council’s (NCC) decisions on August 8, 2024, the Federal Cabinet approved and submitted three foundational laws to parliament: the Law Establishing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the Law of Political Parties, and the Law of Elections. These laws aim to establish clear guidelines for democratic governance and are now under review by a newly formed 15-member parliamentary committee.The FGS highlighted that these efforts form part of Somalia’s broader commitment to establishing a credible electoral system at district, state, and national levels.“The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral process,” the ministry stated, calling on the international community to support Somalia’s electoral advancements in line with its federal structure.
