soohoydeMogadishu, March 2025 – The National Independent Electoral Commission and Boundaries (NIEC), led by Chairman Cabdikarim Axmed Xasan, has officially concluded a training program for 60 individuals who will serve as trainers to prepare personnel responsible for voter registration in the upcoming elections.During the closing ceremony held in Mogadishu, the Chairman emphasized that this marks a significant step in enhancing electoral procedures as Somalia moves towards a “one person, one vote” electoral system.“Today, we have completed the first phase of training for trainers who will be responsible for preparing the staff overseeing voter registration. A total of 60 individuals have successfully completed this training and will now serve as instructors for others involved in this process,” said Chairman Cabdikarim.He further noted that this group represents the first batch of trainers and that additional training phases will follow to accelerate the voter registration process and strengthen the electoral system.Somali Citizens Urged to Prepare for ElectionsThe NIEC Chairman also called on Somali citizens to prepare for the upcoming elections, reiterating the commission’s commitment to ensuring that voting power remains in the hands of the people.This training session concludes at a time when the NIEC officially announced on March 18, 2025, that it has completed preparations for local council elections after securing all necessary materials for voter registration and polling.This milestone demonstrates Somalia’s progress in establishing a transparent and inclusive electoral system, ensuring a fair and democratic voting process for its citizens.
