Antalya, Türkiye – The Federal Government of Somalia has stated that its relationship with Ethiopia has recently improved, following mediation efforts led by Türkiye to resolve the political tensions between the two countries. This was announced by Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, during a panel session at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye.Minister Ali Mohamed Omar emphasized that both Somalia and Ethiopia view Turkish mediation as a valuable opportunity to resolve disputes and enhance peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.“A stable Somalia is good for Ethiopia, and a stable Ethiopia is also good for Somalia. Both are good for the region and for our people,” said Minister Ali, stressing the importance of constructive bilateral cooperation.His comments come at a time when diplomatic and security ties between the two countries are being restored, following a recent diplomatic settlement mediated by Türkiye in the wake of tensions sparked by Ethiopia’s controversial maritime deal with Somaliland.Recently, Somalia also agreed to include Ethiopia among the countries contributing troops to the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), with Ethiopia’s deployment expected to reach 2,500 soldiers.
