Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama emphasized the growing security risks posed by climate change during his keynote speech at the Security and Climate Change Conference held in Mogadishu.He remarked, “Climate change does not only destroy the environment and endanger livelihoods, but also poses a significant threat to peace and stability.”Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sh. Ismail ‘Fartaag’, who joined Jama at the conference, stressed the importance of preparing Somalia’s security sector to tackle these emerging threats, stating, “There is a need for cooperation at all levels to address recurring threats.”Somalia is severely impacted by climate crises such as droughts, floods, and displacement. Despite the establishment of the Ministry of Environment and Climate, today’s event marks the first official link between security and climate change, signaling a new approach to safeguard both the environment and national stability.
