ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – May 5, 2025 — A Somali delegation led by Deputy Police Commissioner Major General Osman Abdullahi Mohamed (Kaniif) participated in the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) conference, which concluded today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The conference focused on regional security, particularly enhancing efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen inter-country cooperation in policing. Discussions also addressed the growing challenge of money laundering and how to further develop security collaboration within the EAPCCO member states.During the event, Major General Kaniif, along with Interpol’s Police Chief, Major General Mohamed Abdulle Dhore, held private meetings with their counterparts from the EAPCCO member countries. They agreed to work together to combat terrorism and other security threats in the region.Strengthening Somalia-China Security TiesAdditionally, Deputy Police Commissioner Kaniif held bilateral talks with China’s Minister of Security, Tsang Wai-hung, who also serves as the Chairman of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum – Lianyungang. They discussed the potential for Somali police officers to receive specialized training and skills development from China.“The reform of training and professional development for Somali police officers is crucial to enhancing the country’s security capabilities,” stated Kaniif.Commitment to Regional Security CooperationThis participation highlights Somalia’s ongoing commitment to strengthening both national and international efforts in combating terrorism and addressing security challenges in the Horn of Africa.
