Mogadishu, December 19, 2024 – In a significant diplomatic engagement, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Sudanese Embassy, H.E. Ammar Ahmed Babakir, to discuss the evolving situation in Sudan and its implications for bilateral relations.

During this pivotal meeting, Ambassador Babakir extended his gratitude towards the Somali government and its people for the hospitality extended to Sudanese nationals who have sought refuge in Somalia due to the ongoing conflicts in their homeland. He praised the spirit of brotherhood demonstrated by Somalia, which has played a crucial role in alleviating the hardships faced by Sudanese refugees.

The Sudanese envoy also relayed a message of goodwill from Sudan’s Chairman of the Sovereign Council, H.E. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, underscoring the deep-rooted connections between the two nations.

President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the longstanding ties between Somalia and Sudan, acknowledging Sudan’s pivotal role in supporting Somalia, especially in education and security training sectors during Somalia’s challenging periods. He noted these contributions have been vital in strengthening the capacity of Somali institutions.

Reaffirming Somalia’s dedication to regional stability, President Hassan Sheikh expressed Somalia’s continued support for peace and stability in Sudan. He emphasized that the stability of Sudan is integral to the security and prosperity of the entire region, thereby committing Somalia’s support in fostering a peaceful resolution to the challenges faced by Sudan.

The meeting underscored the mutual commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations and cooperation, with both nations looking towards a future of shared stability and progress.
