Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia announced its official recognition of the interim administration of SSC-KHATUMO, which comprises the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn regions.During a press conference on Thursday, Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Ahmed Maalim Fiqi, declared that the Federal Government recognized the decision made by SSC community leaders on February 6th, 2023.This decision claims that the region does not belong to either the Somaliland or Puntland administrations.“The Federal Government of Somalia once again supports the decisions made by community leaders on February 6, 2023, and welcomes collaboration with the transitional government established by the local population,” stated Ahmed FiqiMinister Fiqi also emphasized the government’s call for both sides to de-escalate tensions and establish an official ceasefire.“The government of Somalia calls on Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo to cease fire and release the prisoners they are holding,” reiterated Minister Fiqi.The Federal Government’s position is the recognition of the Transitional Authority, which greatly benefits the people of the SSC-Khatumo area currently at odds with Somaliland.This announcement comes barely a week after President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, issued a stern warning to administrations recognizing SSC-Khatumo as part of their own administration.President Bihi warned that his government would take punitive actions against any administration attempting to claim the region.
