Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held a bilateral meeting with Danish Ambassador Steen Sonne Andersen to address concerns over recent comments regarding Somaliland.

The meeting followed public criticism of the ambassador’s remarks during a joint press conference in Hargeisa after Somaliland’s November 13 presidential and party elections.

Ambassador Andersen reaffirmed Denmark’s unwavering support for Somalia’s territorial integrity, emphasizing that Somaliland remains an integral and indivisible part of Somalia.

“Denmark continues to respect Somalia’s territorial integrity and unity, including Somaliland as an integral part,” Andersen said after the meeting.

The discussions underscored Denmark and Somalia’s close partnership, focusing on shared priorities, including state-building, climate change, and peace and security. Minister Fiqi welcomed the clarification, highlighting the importance of mutual respect in strengthening bilateral relations.

Somaliland’s recent elections saw over 1.2 million people vote, drawing international attention and praise for their peaceful conduct. However, Somalia’s federal government reiterated its stance against any recognition of Somaliland as a separate entity, urging international partners to align with its position on national unity.
