New York(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia has signed an important tripartite memorandum of understanding for military support with the United Nations Support Office in Somalia and the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).The MOU was signed during the Somalia Security Conference held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, America on Tuesday.Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, stated that this agreement will cover logistical support for the Somalia Security Forces.“On the sidelines of the Somali Security Conference in New York, we signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding between UNSOS, ATMIS, and FGS which will support the logistical support intended for SSF,” Minister Abdulkadir said on X.On Tuesday, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, convened the Somalia Security Conference, which aimed to discuss Somalia’s security achievements, and post-embargo and post-ATMIS security plans.The President outlined Somalia’s Security Sector Development Plan, which includes the establishment of capable, affordable, transparent, and accountable Somali Security Forces and institutions.The plans also contains strategies for the reconstruction of the army, the stabilization of the liberated areas, emphasizing the importance of both national and international security cooperation.The conference was organized by the federal government of Somalia and co-hosted by the African Union, European Union, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United Nations, and the United States of America. It was attended by 28 of Somalia’s friends and partners.
