Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moallem Faki Ahmed, has expressed profound gratitude to Egypt for its unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted Egypt’s steadfast and eternal position regarding this critical issue.

Somalia appreciated Egypt’s firm stance amidst rising tensions in the region. The recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ethiopia and the breakaway republic of Somaliland, which leases 20 km of sea access to Ethiopia in exchange for Somaliland’s recognition, has exacerbated relations between Somalia and Ethiopia.

Earlier mediation efforts have failed, but Turkey is actively working towards a resolution. Last month, Turkey hosted dialogue in Ankara, with a second phase of talks scheduled for September. These discussions aim to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing disputes and improve regional stability.

Somalia’s acknowledgment of Egypt’s support underscored the importance of regional alliances and cooperative efforts in addressing complex geopolitical challenges.
