Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud welcomed U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, in a significant meeting that underscored the deepening partnership between Somalia and the United States in Kismayo today.

The discussions centered around enhancing Somalia-U.S. security and development cooperation, with a particular focus on continued support for the Somali National Army (SNA). This support aims at bolstering the SNA’s operational capabilities, ensuring the army’s readiness to fully assume responsibility for the country’s security.

“H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had today received U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee. They explored avenues to further strengthen Somalia-U.S. security and development cooperation, including continued support for bolstering Somali National Army (SNA) operational capabilities to facilitate readiness to fully assume security responsibility”, Villa-Somalia said.

Later, President @HassanSMohamud and Assistant Secretary Phee will preside over a MoU signing ceremony for the construction of bases for SNA Danab Brigade according to Villa Somalia.

The MoU pertains to the construction of bases for the SNA’s elite Danab Brigade, highlighting the tangible steps being taken to strengthen Somalia’s military infrastructure.

This collaboration represents a significant commitment by the United States to support Somalia’s long-term stability and security efforts, demonstrating the strategic importance of the Somalia-U.S. relationship in the realm of security and development.
