Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Federal Government has praised a joint operation carried out by local forces and national security forces, which resulted in the deaths of 25 members of the Al-Shabaab group following clashes in the areas of Muqliqa Ali, Elhareeri, Hareri Madobe, and Garas-Magan in the Hiiraan region.A statement released on May 2, 2025 by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism commended the bravery of the local people and the national forces, who jointly prevented an attack planned by Al-Shabaab.According to the government, 25 fighters from the group were killed in the operation, while four others were captured alive, three of whom sustained serious injuries. Additionally, the forces seized a significant amount of weapons from the group.“The heroes of Hiiraan are an example of the struggle and bravery of the Somali people who reject the Al-shabaab attacking our nation and our religion,” the statement read.Finally, the Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to fighting Al-shabab wherever they are located in the country, with the support of the people and international partners.Hiiraan has seen heavy fighting in recent months between government forces, local militias on one side, and the Al-Shabaab group on the other.
