Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Lower House of Somalia’s Federal Parliament has officially closed its fifth session, granting members a two-month recess from December 6, 2024, to February 6, 2025. Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur announced the decision in a letter addressed to parliament members and copied to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.In his letter, Speaker Sheikh Aden thanked the lawmakers for their dedication and service during the session.The announcement comes a month after accepting a request from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for the bicameral parliament to extend its session by an additional month to address pressing electoral issues, including the establishment of the National Electoral and Boundaries Commission and finalizing laws related to political parties.Before the recess, the parliament approved the establishment of the electoral commission, one of the key items President Mohamud had prioritized.The recess provides a brief pause in legislative activity, as Somalia continues to work towards finalizing its electoral framework and advancing preparations for upcoming elections under the one-person, one-vote model.
