By Sayyid OmarThe Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments of Somaliland, Abdullahi Dahir Jama, has announced a nationwide prayer for rain (Salaad Roobdoon) to be observed across all regions and districts of Somaliland.Speaking from the El-Afweyn district in the Sanaag region after Friday prayers, the Minister declared that on Sunday, April 6, 2025, citizens throughout Somaliland are urged to gather and perform the rain prayer.The Minister directed all district and regional governors to lead the effort and mobilize communities to participate collectively in the prayer for rain on that day.He noted that the rainy season has been delayed, prompting the Ministry to call for unified prayers in all areas of Somaliland.“The Ministry hereby announces a national prayer for rain due to the delayed rainfall. We have decided to turn to God and seek His mercy through prayer,” the Minister stated.Highlighting the severity of the drought in Somaliland, he emphasized the urgent need for divine intervention. He illustrated the dire situation by mentioning that a barrel of water is being sold for 30,000 Somaliland Shillings—equivalent to approximately 3 US dollars—underscoring the importance of prayer to alleviate the drought.
