Somaliland officials issue a stern warning to Somalia ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Laascaanood.

Hargeisa – Somaliland has stated that the Federal Government of Somalia will be fully responsible for any unrest or instability resulting from Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s planned visit to the city of Laascaanood.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somaliland, the visit was described as one that could “further inflame regional tensions” and undermine ongoing peace efforts.

Somaliland emphasized that the visit could lead to growing insecurity and humanitarian risks such as displacement and refugee crises. The statement warned that such actions could empower non-state actors to exploit the fragile situation in the region.

“If not prevented, this act could pave the way for the emergence of armed non-state actors who would take advantage of the unrest, potentially triggering humanitarian disasters and wider security threats,” the statement read.

Somaliland clearly stated that the Federal Government of Somalia “will bear full responsibility for any escalation or unrest resulting from the Prime Minister’s visit.”

Somaliland also called on the international community — including the African Union, United Nations, Arab League, and others — to closely monitor Somalia’s actions, which it labeled “provocative and potentially destabilizing for the Horn of Africa.”

The statement comes as Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre is expected to visit Laascaanood on Friday. Several federal ministers and senior officials had already arrived in the city ahead of his visit.
