Hargeisa(Mogadishu24)-The Interior Minister of the breakaway republic of Somaliland,Mohamed Kahin Ahmed on Wednesday held a meeting with George Conway, the Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Somalia. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the Somaliland government and the United Nations, particularly in the areas of security and development projects.“Today, I welcomed Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary-General, George Conway, to my office. We had productive discussions on enhancing cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Somaliland and the United Nations, focusing on security and development projects,” the Interior Minister stated.He also expressed serious concerns about illegal weapons reaching Somali tribes and militias in the Abad-Wak area, which pose a significant threat to the peace and stability of the Horn of Africa.The envoy’s visit to Hargeisa comes as the region prepares for presidential and party elections scheduled for November 13 this year. Both parties emphasized the importance of holding transparent and stable elections while maintaining security in the region.The meeting underscored the ongoing commitment of Somaliland and the UN to work together in promoting peace and development in the area.
