HARGEISA – Somaliland officially launched a large-scale integrated vaccination campaign aimed at protecting children from Measles, Polio and Pneumonia diseases that pose significant health risks to young children.The campaign will be implemented across all regions of Somaliland, targeting over 90,000 children under the age of five.Somaliland’s Vice President, Mohamed Ali Aw-Cabdi On May 25, 2025, inaugurated the vaccination campaign during a ceremony held in Hargeisa. He emphasized the critical importance of immunization for children and commended the Ministry of Health for its efforts, urging that vaccines reach every child across Somaliland to safeguard them against the combined threats of measles, whooping cough, and rubella.“I urge the Ministry of Health to ensure vaccination coverage reaches every hospital. The President and I are committed to making vaccines available in all hospitals, whether private or public,” Aw-Cabdi said.The Ministry of Health of Somaliland stated that, in collaboration with UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 7,000 healthcare professionals are actively engaged in delivering vaccinations to children.
