Hargeisa, April 22, 2025 – Somaliland’s Minister of the Interior, Cabdalle Maxamed Carab (Sandheere), has announced plans to introduce new legislation aimed at curbing the spread of clanism and its detrimental effects on societal cohesion. The announcement was made during his participation in the Cultural Conference of Somaliland, where he emphasized the need for legal measures to address the risks posed by clanism.The minister’s statement comes amid concerns over how clanism, a long-standing challenge in Somaliland, continues to undermine unity. “As a Ministry, we are working on a law that we will present to the Parliament that will help us control and manage clanism,” Minister Sandheere said.The Cultural Conference, which focused on the protection and promotion of Somaliland’s cultural heritage, also saw the participation of the President of Somaliland, who supported the meeting’s focus on culture. The President underscored the importance of unity and collaboration across all sectors of society to maintain peace and continue Somaliland’s development.The proposed law, once presented to the Parliament, is expected to be a critical step in addressing the societal challenges posed by clanism.
