The President of Somaliland has pledged to work towards the release of prisoners captured during the Sool conflict.President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Cirro, speaking at the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Forum organized by the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, confirmed that the release of these prisoners would be given top priority. The President also promised that his administration would work towards bringing peace to the Sool region. This statement comes at a time when, earlier this month, the SSC-Khaatumo region announced its readiness for a prisoner exchange, as the central government transferred prisoners captured during the conflict in those areas.Somalia’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Xasan Maalim, following the Prime Minister’s visit to Laascaanood, stated that the SSC-Khaatumo administration had transferred 25 prisoners to the federal government unconditionally, calling on the Somaliland administration to take similar steps and release prisoners held in Hargeisa.
