Jigjiga, SRS – The Food, Medicine, and Health Services Monitoring Agency of the Somali Regional State (SRS) has issued a strong warning to traders involved in selling expired goods, stating that legal action will be taken against anyone found engaging in such activities.

The agency’s Director, Abdullahi Mahmud Mataan, clarified that traders selling expired food items, beverages, milk, and cosmetic products to the public will face severe legal consequences. He further added that actions have already been taken against businesses and individuals caught selling expired goods, which pose a health risk to the public.

A two-day extensive operation was carried out in the peripheral districts of Jigjiga, where agency staff were involved in collecting expired goods. A large number of expired beverages and snacks were confiscated, some of which had expired months ago.

The Director also urged local traders to responsibly monitor the quality and expiration dates of the products they sell in the market. He emphasized the importance of avoiding the sale of expired goods, as they pose a significant health risk to the public and are a violation of local laws.
