Jigjiga – The Somali Regional State (SRS) today concluded its handicraft skills training program for adults, with 100 students, including both men and women, graduating from various vocational training courses in Jigjiga.

The graduation ceremony was attended by officials from the Regional Education Office, including the Minister of Education, Mohamed Sheikh Qaadiin, the Minister of Vocational Training and Employment, Hussein Geed, and other government representatives.

The graduates learned a variety of skills such as cooking, women’s beauty treatments, mobile phone repairs, and clothing stitching. The training lasted 45 days, and their skills were assessed upon completion.

The attending officials discussed the importance of acquiring vocational skills, urging the graduates to use the knowledge gained to achieve positive results that would help them improve their work and lives.

Yusuf Carab, Director of Adult and Non-Formal Education at the SRS Education Office, spoke at the event and expressed hopes to expand the program.

“We hope to broaden these opportunities, and this year we plan to extend this training to other areas, such as Fiiq, Dhagax Buur, Filitu, and Xandhagaalle,” said Yusuf Carab.

This event is part of SRS’s efforts to strengthen vocational education and job creation in the community, with the graduates being the first batch to complete such training.
