Mogadishu, April 24, 2025 – The Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, arrived today on an official visit to Mogadishu, where he held a meeting with the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud before he traviled to Uganda. This visit comes at a time when both countries are strengthening their relations.

After the meeting, Minister Al-Shammari handed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud an invitation letter from the Prime Minister of Iraq, inviting the President of Somalia to participate in this year’s Arab League Summit, which will be held in Baghdad, Iraq, in May.

The last time President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended the Arab League Summit was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 12, 2023, where he met with a delegation led by the President of Iraq, Mr. Abdul Latif Rashid, who participated in the summit.

The two leaders discussed the exchange of experiences and expertise related to the fight against armed groups operating in both countries, security cooperation, and the mutual interests between the two nations.
